Description

Indications

Rizatriptan is indicated for the treatment of migraines. It effectively alleviates headache, pain, and other associated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. The medication’s timely administration helps you return to your normal routine and may decrease your need for other pain medications.

Rizatriptan is classified as a triptan medication, operating through modulation of the serotonin neurotransmitter, which is responsible for the constriction of blood vessels within the brain. It may also provide pain relief through its influence on certain brain nerves.

Uses and Dosage

Rizatriptan is available as both a tablet and a disintegrating tablet, to be taken orally. It is recommended to be taken as soon as the initial symptoms of a migraine headache appear.

In the event that your symptoms improve following the administration of rizatriptan, but recur after 2 or more hours, you may consider taking a second tablet. In instances where your symptoms do not improve following the first dose, it is not advised to take a second tablet without consulting your healthcare provider.

Your healthcare provider will provide guidance regarding the maximum number of tablets that may be taken within a 24-hour period. Adhere to the instructions listed on the packaging or the prescription label, and seek clarification from your physician or pharmacist with regard to any uncertainties. Do not exceed the recommended dose or frequency of administration, as stated on the label or prescribed by your physician.

The first dose of rizatriptan may be taken in a medical facility or physician’s office where a healthcare professional can supervise for any severe reactions.

To use the orally disintegrating tablet, use dry hands to peel back the foil packaging. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve, before swallowing it with your saliva. No additional water is necessary for the consumption of disintegrating tablets.

If your headaches do not improve or occur with greater frequency after the administration of rizatriptan, contact your healthcare provider.

The use of rizatriptan for an extended period or in excess of the recommended frequency may lead to the worsening of headaches or an increase in their frequency. It is not recommended to take rizatriptan or any other headache medication for more than ten days per month.

Contact your healthcare provider if the need to take rizatriptan to treat more than four headaches arises within a one-month period.
