What is Accolate (zafirlukast) used for? |
Accolate (zafirlukast) is used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It should not be used to treat acute asthma attacks.

Do not take Accolate (zafirlukast) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Accolate (zafirlukast) you are breastfeeding |

Before using Accolate (zafirlukast), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Accolate (zafirlukast)?

Do not stop or cut down on other asthma medication while using Accolate (zafirlukast). Accolate (zafirlukast) is not used for the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attack. |
What are the side effects of Accolate (zafirlukast)?

Most severe: Headache, infection, nausea
|
|
Most common: Accidental injury, abdominal pain, allergic reactions (hives; swelling of the lips, tongue, face, arms, and legs; rash), back pain, diarrhea, dizziness, fever, generalized pain, indigestion, joint pain, muscle aches, vomiting, weakness
|
|
Other: Pain; weakness; stomach pain; dizziness; muscle pain; fever; back pain; vomiting; indigestion.

How should I take Accolate (zafirlukast)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Accolate (zafirlukast) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Accolate (zafirlukast) should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Do not take Accolate (zafirlukast) if you are breastfeeding. Other anti-asthma medicine should be considered by your health care provider. Do not use Accolate (zafirlukast) to treat acute asthma attacks. Do not decrease the dose or stop taking any other anti-asthma medicines unless you are instructed to do so by your health care provider. Accolate (zafirlukast) should be taken as prescribed even when you do not experience any symptoms. If you experience upper right stomach pain, nausea, tiredness, itching, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or flu-like symptoms while taking Accolate (zafirlukast), talk with your health care provider at once. Accolate (zafirlukast) may cause dizziness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care providers before taking Accolate (zafirlukast). Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Accolate (zafirlukast) Tablet between 68 to 77 degrees F. Protect from light and moisture. |
