Achromycin (not available in Canada) is a "broad-spectrum" antibiotic and is used to treat bacterial infections such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus fever, and tick fevers; upper respiratory infections; pneumonia; gonorrhea; amoebic infections; and urinary tract infections. It is also used to help treat severe acne and to treat trachoma (a chronic eye infection) and conjunctivitis (pinkeye). Achromycin (not available in Canada) is often an alternative medicine for people who are allergic to penicillin.

Do not take Achromycin (not available in Canada) if you are allergic to Achromycin (not available in Canada) or to any ingredient present in Achromycin (not available in Canada).

Before using Achromycin (not available in Canada), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you are taking any herbal products, if you are taking blood thinners if you have stomach problems if you have peptic ulcers if you have any other medical condition like liver or kidney function impairment, heart ot lung problem

Achromycin (not available in Canada) can make you more prone to sunburn when you are in sunlight or ultraviolet light. Take appropriate precautions. Achromycin (not available in Canada) should not be used during the last half of pregnancy or in children under the age of 8. It may damage developing teeth and cause permanent discoloration.

Other: Inflamed skin, inflammation of the penis, liver poisoning, muscle weakness, peeling, skin eruptions, throat sores and inflammation

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Achromycin (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Achromycin (not available in Canada) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Achromycin (not available in Canada). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. If Achromycin (not available in Canada) is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining tetracycline with the following: antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium, such as Mylanta and Maalox, blood thinners such as Coumadin, oral contraceptives, Penicillin (Amoxil, Pen-Vee K, others). You should use Achromycin (not available in Canada) for at least 24 to 48 hours after symptoms and fever have subsided. For a streptococcal infection, doses should be taken for at least 10 days. Do not take antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium (e.g., Mylanta, Maalox) while taking Achromycin (not available in Canada). They will affect the absorption of the drug. Take Achromycin (not available in Canada) 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Foods, milk, and some other dairy products affect absorption of the drug.

Store Achromycin (not available in Canada) in a dry place at room temperature between 59° - 86°F. Keep out of reach of children and pets
