Acticin (permethrin) is used topically to treat head lice and scabies.

Do not take Acticin (permethrin) if you are allergic to Acticin (permethrin) or to any ingredient present in Acticin (permethrin).

Before using Acticin (permethrin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you are taking any herbal products, if you are taking blood thinners if you have stomach problems if you have peptic ulcers if you have any other medical condition like liver or kidney function impairment, heart ot lung problem

Avoid sexual or intimate contact with others until the infection has been cured. Also avoid sharing hair combs, hair accessories, hats, clothing, bed linens, and other articles of personal use. The infections are highly contagious. Do not use more of Acticin (permethrin) than is directed. Using too much of Acticin (permethrin) could be very dangerous. Do not apply to open cuts or wounds. This could cause too much medication to be absorbed by your body, which could be very dangerous.

Other: Worsening of your condition

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Acticin (permethrin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Acticin (permethrin) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Acticin (permethrin). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. Do not take Acticin (permethrin) by mouth. Do not use more of Acticin (permethrin) than is recommended. Avoid application to your mouth, nose, or eyes. Treat sexual and other close contacts who are also infected. To prevent reinfection, wash all clothing, hats, bed clothes, bed linens, hair brushes, and combs with a strong cleanser in hot water to remove any mites or eggs. To treat scabies: Apply a thin layer of the cream to all body parts from the neck down to the soles of the feet (scabies does not usually infect the head). Treat infants also on the hairline, neck, scalp, temple, and forehead. Apply the medication to dry skin and rub it in well. Leave the medication on for 8 to 14 hours, then wash it off completely. Scabies is usually cured with one application. To treat head lice: Shampoo, rinse, and towel dry the hair as usual. Apply enough lotion to saturate the hair and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Thoroughly rinse with water. Combing of the hair to remove nits is not necessary. One treatment should cure the infection.

Store Acticin (permethrin) in a dry place at room temperature between 59° - 86°F. Keep out of reach of children and pets
