Actonel (risedronate) should not be used with antacids or mineral supplements containing calcium. Do not lie down, eat or drink for 30 minutes after taking Actonel (risedronate). |
What are the side effects of Actonel (risedronate)?

Most severe: Chest pain; intestinal pain, black tarry stools, vision changes, allergic reaction (skin rash, itching, swelling of the lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Most common: Joint pain; diarrhea; headache; stomach pain; rash; flu-like symptoms; nausea; swelling; dizziness; constipation; weakness; bone pain; sinus infection; belching; leg cramps; muscle weakness; bronchitis; vision problems; ringing in the ears; dry eyes.

Other: Red, sore eyes

How should I take Actonel (risedronate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Actonel (risedronate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Actonel (risedronate) should be taken once daily for 2 months. Take Actonel (risedronate) at least 30 minutes before the first food or drink of the day, other than water. To reduce possible stomach side effects, you should take Actonel (risedronate) while standing or sitting, up with a full glass (6 to 8 oz) of water. Avoid lying down for 30 minutes after taking Actonel (risedronate). Take vitamin D and calcium supplements if your dietary intake is inadequate. Take at a different time of day. Do not eat or take products that contain calcium, aluminum, or magnesium at the same time as Actonel (risedronate). Do not stop taking Actonel (risedronate) without checking with your doctor. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Actonel (risedronate). Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
