Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) is used to reduce the risk of stroke or blockage of blood vessels.

|
Do not take Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) or to NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen) you have asthma, runny nose, or nasal polyps you are a child or teenager with a virus, if you have peptic ulcer or stomach bleeding, if you have a bleeding disorder |
What precautions should I follow when taking Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) ?

Before using Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks per day if you have a blood clotting disorder if you have severe heart disease if you have a history of peptic ulcers if you have impaired liver function if you have impaired kidney function if you have low blood pressure if you have any other medical condition |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA)?

Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) cannot be used by people who have an allergy to aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil, Motrin, and Naprosyn, or by people who suffer asthma attacks after taking aspirin. Do not use Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) if you have a stomach ulcer or any kind of bleeding disorder. |

Most severe: Memory loss; stroke; severe bleeding in the digestive tract; hives; swelling of the mouth and face; asthma; Reye's syndrome (in children and teenagers); convulsions; chest pain.

Most common: Headache; indigestion; diarrhea; stomach pain; dizziness.
|
|
Other: Bleeding from the rectum; "coffee ground vomit"; hemorrhoids; general body discomfort; weakness; fainting; confusion; coughing; chills; loss of appetite; drowsiness; joint disease; muscle pain; upper respiratory tract infection; red or purple spots under the skin; nausea; vomiting; joint pain; arthritis; nosebleed; tiredness; back pain.

How should I take Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) is usually taken twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Swallow Capsule whole. Do not chew them. Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) may be taken with or without food. Do not substitute this form of aspirin for any other form of aspirin. Stop taking Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) and contact your health care provider at once if any of the following side effects occur: Stomach pain; heartburn; nausea; vomiting; severe bleeding in the digestive tract. Notify your doctor if unusual bleeding occurs. Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking more than 3 alcoholic drinks daily while taking Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA). Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA). Do not stop taking Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of Aggrenox (dipyridamole/ASA). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your health care provider or pharmacist at your next appointment.
