Before using Akineton (biperiden), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like glaucoma, gastrointestinal problems, impaired kidney, heart or liver function |

What are the side effects of Akineton (biperiden)?

Most severe: Disturbed behavior.
|
|
Most common: Dry mouth; blurred vision; drowsiness; unable to urinate; constipation; agitation; exaggerated sense of well-being; confusion; dizziness or lightheadedness when sitting or standing up.

Other: Confusion, impairment of memory, blurred vision, urinary retention and rarely, decrease in heart rate

How should I take Akineton (biperiden)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Akineton (biperiden) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not take alcohol and medicines that cause drowsiness (eg, tranquilizers, antihistamines, some pain medicines). Stomach upset may occur while taking Akineton (biperiden). Take Akineton (biperiden) with food or after meals. If constipation occurs, use stool softeners if needed. Do not exercise or expose yourself to the sun while taking Akineton (biperiden) because it may cause heavy sweating. Akineton (biperiden) can reduce the ability to sweat, which prevents overheating. Sucking on sugarless hard candy, drinking fluids, or practicing good dental hygiene can relieve dry mouth. Akineton (biperiden) may produce blurred vision or drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Akineton (biperiden) may also cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when sitting or standing. If this occurs, sit or lie down and contact your doctor. Do not stop taking Akineton (biperiden) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Akineton (biperiden). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
