When should Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) not be taken?
|
Do not take Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) or sulfa medications you have active liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis you have had previous liver problems when using methyldopa you are unable to urinate you are currently using monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors |

Before using Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have severe liver or kidney disease if you are at risk for gout if you have any other medical condition |

What are the side effects of Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ)?

Most severe: Yellowing of skin or eyes; fever; chest pain; changes in heart rhythm; intestinal cramps; impotence; swelling of the fingers or ankles; unusual bleeding or bruising; uncontrollable movements.

Most common: Drowsiness; headache; weakness.
|
|
Other: Vomiting; diarrhea; sore or black tongue; nausea; constipation; dry mouth; bloating; gas; lightheadedness; twitching; nightmares; depression; dizziness; joint pain with or without swelling; muscle pain; rash; nasal stuffiness; abnormal menstrual flow; breast enlargement; feeling of a whirling motion; restlessness; hair loss; blurred vision; sudden joint pain.

How should I take Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) increases urination. Take it early in the day. Contact your doctor if any of the following occur: Dry mouth; thirst; weakness; lack of energy; drowsiness; restlessness; confusion; seizures; muscle pain or cramps; muscular fatigue; dizziness; lightheadedness; infrequent urination; fast heartbeat; nausea; vomiting. Ask your doctor about foods high in potassium. Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting can occur when rising from a seated or lying position. If this occurs, avoid sudden changes in posture. Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Diabetic patients - Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) may increase blood sugar levels. Avoid drinking alcohol and taking other medicine that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ). Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting therapy. Continue taking Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) even though you may not feel quite "normal." Contact your doctor or pharmacist if any new symptoms occur. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not take over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.

Store Aldoril (methyldopa/HCTZ) at controlled room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F in a tightly closed container. Protect from light, moisture, and freezing. Keep out of reach of children |
