What is Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) used for? |
Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) is used for fast relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach with headache or body aches and pains. Also used for fast relief of upset stomach with headache from overeating and excessive drinking especially recommended for taking before bed and again on arising. Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) is also effective for pain relief; headache or body and muscular aches and pains.

Do not take Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) if you are taking a prescription drug for anticoagulation (thinning the blood), diabetes, gout, or arthritis unless directed by a health care provider. Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) may interact with certain prescription drugs. If you are presently taking a prescription drug, do not take Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) without checking with your health care provider or other health professional. |

How should I take Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) or change the dose without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Children and teenagers should not use Alka-Seltzer (asa/sodium bicarb/citric acid) for chicken pox or flu symptoms before a health care provider is consulted about Reye Syndrome, a rare but serious illness reported to be associated with aspirin. As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this product. It is especially important not to use aspirin during the last three months of pregnancy unless specifically directed to do so by a health care provider because it may cause problems in the unborn child or complications during delivery. Except under the advice and supervision of a health care provider, do not take more than, Adults: 8 tablets in a 24-hour period (60 years of age or older: 4 tablets in a 24-hour period) or use the daily maximum dosage for more than 10 days unless directed by a health care provider. Do not take this product if you are allergic to aspirin or if you have asthma, bleeding problems or on a sodium restricted diet. Each tablet contains 567mg of sodium. If ringing in the ears or a loss of hearing occurs, consult a health care provider before taking any more of this product. If pain persists or gets worse, if new symptoms occur, or if redness or swelling is present, consult a health care provider because these could be signs of a serious condition. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. Alcohol Warning: If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your health care provider whether you should take aspirin or other pain relievers / fever reducers. Aspirin may cause stomach bleeding. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
