Amoxil (amoxicillin) is used to treat a wide variety of infections, including: gonorrhea, middle ear infections, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and infections of the genital and urinary tract.

Do not take Amoxil (amoxicillin) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Amoxil (amoxicillin) or to similar medications.

Before using Amoxil (amoxicillin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions.

Amoxil (amoxicillin) has been reported to cause serious and occasionally fatal allergic reactions

Other: Anemia, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytopenic purpura, eosinophilia, leukopenia, neutropenia and agranulocytosis

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Amoxil (amoxicillin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Amoxil (amoxicillin) may be given without regard to meals. Continue to use until all of the prescribed medicine has been taken. Failure to take all of Amoxil (amoxicillin) may prevent complete elimination of the bacteria (or fungi), allowing the infection to return. If severe diarrhea, stomach pain/cramps, or bloody stools occurs, contact your doctor at once. This could be a symptom of a serious side effect requiring immediate medical attention. Do not treat diarrhea without talking with your doctor. Children over 88 lbs. may take the adult dosage. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Amoxil (amoxicillin) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Amoxil (amoxicillin). Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Stop using Amoxil (amoxicillin) if you experience reactions such as bruising, fever, skin rash, itching, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, and/or sores on the genitals. If these reactions occur, stop taking Amoxil unless your doctor advises you to continue. Amoxil (amoxicillin) can be taken with or without food.

Store Amoxil (amoxicillin) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.
