What is Antivert (meclizine) used for? |
Antivert (meclizine) is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness due to motion sickness, radiation sickness in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

When should Antivert (meclizine) not be taken?
|
Do not take Antivert (meclizine) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Antivert (meclizine) you have lung disease (such as emphysema or bronchitis) you have glaucoma you have difficulty urinating because of an enlarged prostate gland |
What precautions should I follow when taking Antivert (meclizine) ?

Before using Antivert (meclizine), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition |

Antivert (meclizine) may occasionally cause drowsiness, patients receiving treatment with Antivert (meclizine) should take the necessary precautions against driving or operating dangerous machinery. Patients suffering from glaucoma or prostatic enlargement should take Antivert (meclizine) only under the direction of a health care peovider. |
What are the side effects of Antivert (meclizine)?

Most severe: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, lassitude, excitement (especially in children) and nausea
|

Most common: Drowsiness.

Other: Dry mouth; blurred vision.

How should I take Antivert (meclizine)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Antivert (meclizine) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Antivert (meclizine) 1 hour before the start of travel. Antivert (meclizine) may cause drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not drink alcohol while taking Antivert (meclizine). Do not take sedatives or tranquilizers while taking Antivert (meclizine). Do not stop taking Antivert (meclizine) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Antivert (meclizine). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
