Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) is used in combination with other medications to control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.

Before using Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you are taking blood thinners if you have stomach problems if you have peptic ulcers if you have any other medical condition like liver or kidney function impairment or heart problem |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin)?

Before starting treatment with Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin), get an assessment of your kidney functions. If you develop kidney problems while on Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin), your doctor will discontinue Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin). If you are an older person, you will need to have your kidney function monitored more frequently, and your doctor may want to start you at a lower dosage. Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin). Heavy drinking increases the danger of lactic acidosis and can also trigger an attack of low blood sugar |
What are the side effects of Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin)?

Most severe: An allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), worsening colitis (fever, abdominal pain, cramping, or bloody diarrhea); or chest pain or shortness of breath, lactic acidosis (Dizziness, extreme weakness or tiredness, light-headedness, low body temperature, slow or irregular heartbeat, rapid breathing or trouble breathing, sleepiness, unexpected or unusual stomach discomfort, unusual muscle pain).

Most common: Accidental injury, anemia, back pain, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, joint pain, nausea, sinus inflammation, swelling, upper respiratory infection, upset stomach, viral infection

Other: High blood sugar

How should I take Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Avandamet (rosiglitazone/metformin) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets. |
