What is Axid (nizatidine) used for? |
Axid (nizatidine) is used in adults to treat ulcers of the stomach and upper small intestine. It is also used to treat GERD (the bubbling of stomach contents into the food pipe, which causes heartburn). Doctors may occasionally prescribe it for other reasons.

Most common:ÿ Headache; stomach pain; pain; weakness; diarrhea; nausea; gas; vomiting; indigestion; dizziness; sleeplessness; runny nose; sore throat.

Other:ÿ Back pain; fever; constipation; dry mouth; loss of appetite; tooth disorder; muscle pain; abnormal dreams; drowsiness; anxiety; nervousness; sinus infection; increased cough; rash; itching; vision problems.

How should I take Axid (nizatidine)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Axid (nizatidine) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take without regard to food. Axid (nizatidine) may be taken with antacids, if needed. It may be necessary to make significant changes in your lifestyle and diet to assist in the treatment and prevention of ulcers and other digestive problems. This can include stress-reduction programs, exercise and dietary changes. Notify your doctor if there are any symptoms that suggest a bleeding ulcer, such as black, tarry stools or "coffee-ground" or bloody vomit. Lab tests or exams may be required. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking or change the dose unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
