Do not take Aygestin (norethindrone acetate) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Aygestin (norethindrone acetate) or to similar medications, if you have liver disease, have or have had benign or malignant liver tumors, have or may have breast cancer, have undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, have a history of blood clots or stroke |
What precautions should I follow when taking Aygestin (norethindrone acetate) ?

Before using Aygestin (norethindrone acetate), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have impairment of heart, lung, liver and kidney functions |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Aygestin (norethindrone acetate)?

Tobacco smoking increases the risk of getting a blood clot or having a stroke while you are using Aygestin (norethindrone acetate), especially if you are more than 35 years old. You are strongly advised not to smoke. |
What are the side effects of Aygestin (norethindrone acetate)?

Most severe: Partial or complete loss of vision, bulging of the eye, double vision, migraine
|
|
Most common: Breakthrough bleeding, spotting, change in menstrual flow, absence of periods, fluid retention, changes in weight (increase or decrease), changes in cervical erosion and cervical secretions, rash (allergic) with and without itching, depression
|
|
Other: Anxiety, depression, frustration, anger, or emotional outbursts, increased or decreased appetite, increased sensitivity to sun or ultraviolet light, nausea, skin rash, acne, or brown spots on the skin, tiredness, weight gain
|
How should I take Aygestin (norethindrone acetate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Aygestin (norethindrone acetate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Aygestin (norethindrone acetate) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Aygestin (norethindrone acetate). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
