Before using Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions. Before using Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) may bleach hair or colored fabric. Use cautiously to avoid contact with clothing or hair. Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) may make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide)?

Avoid any contact of Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) with your eyes, inside your nose or mouth or on inflamed or damaged skin; doing so could cause irritation. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Contact your doctor if you experience excessive burning, dryness, or irritation. Less frequent administration of the medication may be necessary. |
What are the side effects of Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide)?

Most severe: Severe allergic reaction (shortness of breath, closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; or hives).
|

Most common: Some burning, stinging, tingling, itching, redness, dryness, peeling, or irritation of skin.

How should I take Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) if for external use only. Shake well before using. Apply to affected area no more than 3 or 4 times daily. Wash hands after applying. Children under 18 years of age: Consult a doctor. Avoid contact with eyes and nose. A temporary burning sensation may occur when Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) is applied but it usually disappears after several days. If severe burning occurs, stop taking Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) and consult your health care provider at once. If condition worsens or if symptoms persist for more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days, consult your health care provider. Do not bandage or use with a heating pad. Do not use on wounds or damaged, broken, or irritated skin. Do not stop taking Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Benzac W Gel (benzoyl peroxide). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
