What is Bezalip (bezafibrate) used for? |
Bezalip (bezafibrate) is used to lower eye pressure and to treat glaucoma. It may be used with other medicines.

Do not use Bezalip (bezafibrate) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Bezalip (bezafibrate) you have any heart disorders (eg, slow heartbeat, heart block, heart shock, heart failure) |
What precautions should I follow when taking Bezalip (bezafibrate) ?

Before using Bezalip (bezafibrate), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine (especially psychotropic medicines), nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have severe reactive airway disease, lung problems, or asthma if you have diabetes if you have an overactive thyroid if you have recently had surgery if you have any other medical condition |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Bezalip (bezafibrate)?

Avoid contamination of the dropper tip. Shake Bezalip (bezafibrate) well before use. |
What are the side effects of Bezalip (bezafibrate)?
|
|
Most severe:ÿ Slow heartbeat; heart problems; severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; tightness in the chest); asthma.
|
|
Most common:ÿ Irritation or discomfort in the eyes; tearing; muscle weakness; sleeplessness; dizziness; feeling of a whirling motion; headache; depression; lack of energy; flushing/redness of the skin; hair loss; inflammation/redness of the tongue.

|
Other:ÿ Decreased sensitivity in the eye; flushing/redness, itching, staining, inflammation, swelling of the eye; pupils of different sizes; sensitivity to sunlight.

How should I take Bezalip (bezafibrate)?
|
How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Bezalip (bezafibrate) you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Bezalip (bezafibrate) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Use Bezalip (bezafibrate) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Use 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) twice daily. Bezalip (bezafibrate) may take a few weeks to reach maximum effectiveness. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface. Bezalip (bezafibrate) can, on rare occasions, cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Bezalip (bezafibrate) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and other ultraviolet light (eg, tanning beds). Use sunscreens and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Diabetes patients -- Bezalip (bezafibrate) can hide signs of low blood sugar and change blood sugar levels. Your health care provider may need to change the amount of diabetic medicines you are taking. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Bezalip (bezafibrate). Do not stop using Bezalip (bezafibrate) without checking with your health care provider. Do not use more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have used too much of Bezalip (bezafibrate). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, use it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
