What is Butisol (barbiturate) used for? |

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Butisol (barbiturate)?

Butisol (barbiturate) will add to the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants (medicines that slow down the nervous system, possibly causing drowsiness). Butisol (barbiturate) may cause some people to become dizzy, lightheaded, drowsy, or less alert than they are normally. Even if taken at bedtime, it may cause some people to feel drowsy or less alert on arising. Make sure you know how you react to Butisol (barbiturate) before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are dizzy or are not alert. Oral contraceptives (birth control pills) containing estrogen may not work properly if you take them while you are taking Butisol (barbiturate). Unplanned pregnancies may occur. You should use a different or additional means of birth control while you are taking barbiturates . If you have any questions about this, check with your health care professional. |
What are the side effects of Butisol (barbiturate)?

Most severe: Anxiety or nervousness; constipation; feeling faint; headache; irritability; nausea or vomiting; nightmares or trouble in sleeping

How should I take Butisol (barbiturate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Butisol (barbiturate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Butisol (barbiturate) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Butisol (barbiturate). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of barbiturates. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially alcohol abuse (or history of) or drug abuse or dependence (or history of), anemia (severe), asthma (history of), emphysema, or other chronic lung disease, diabetes mellitus, hyperactivity (in children), mental depression, overactive thyroid, porphyria, underactive adrenal gland.
