Excessive or prolonged use of Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate) can suppress pituitary-adrenal function, resulting in secondary adrenal insufficiency, and produce manifestations of hypercorticism, including Cushing's disease. |
What are the side effects of Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate)?

Most severe: Severe skin irritation, rash, sensitivity to light
|

Most common: Burning; itching; irritation; dryness; acne; lightening of the skin; secondary infection; streaks in the skin; inflamed hair follicles; excessive hair growth; swelling around the mouth; cracking and stinging of the skin; allergic reaction; skin wasting.

How should I take Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Wash or soak the affected area before applying Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate). This may increase the penetration of Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate). Avoid long-term use, especially near the eyes, on the face, on the genital and rectal areas, and in skin folds. Skin infections may worsen. You may need to stop using Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate) and treat the infection. Consult your health care provider. Skin wasting may occur after 3 to 4 weeks of regular daily use. Do not mix Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate) with other medications. Allergic reactions may occur. If the condition gets worse, or if irritation, burning, redness, swelling, or stinging persists, do not reapply Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate). Contact your doctor. Products that contain alcohol may cause drying, burning, or irritation of open lesions. Apply cream as a thin film to affected area(s) as directed by your health care provider. Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate) is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes or eyelids. Do not cover the areas being treated with bandages or other dressings unless advised to do so by your doctor. Report any signs of irritation or allergic reactions to your doctor. Do not use tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants on children being treated with Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate). Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Celestoderm V (betamethasone valerate). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
