Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) is used most often to help relieve short-term insomnia(sleeplessness). It may also be used before surgery or diagnostic tests for relaxation and to produce drowsiness or sleep. It may be used alone or in combination with other medications to prevent symptoms of alcohol withdrawal or to treat existing withdrawal symptoms. It may also be effective in reducing anxiety caused by withdrawal from other substances such as narcotics or barbiturates.

Do not take Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) you have severe liver or kidney problems

Before using Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine, such as blood thinners if you suffer from depression, have seriously considered suicide, or have had an addiction to other medicines if you have severe heart disease if you have a history of ulcers or irritation of the stomach you have ulcers if you have any other medical condition

Other:  Rash; hives; skin lesions; flushing; clumsiness; dizziness; sleepwalking. Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) may be habit-forming. Dependence and tolerance can develop. Your doctor will need to gradually reduce your dose to prevent any withdrawal symptoms.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) with at least one-half glass of water, fruit juice, or ginger ale to prevent stomach upset. If stomach upset occurs take with a full glass of any of these liquids. Do not consume alcohol while taking Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship). Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity, such as operating machinery. Diabetes patients - Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) may interfere with urine tests for ketones and give false test results. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.

Store Chloral Hydrate (controlled, not able to ship) at room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F) in a tightly closed container. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
