Clindagel (clindamycin) is used to treat acne.

When should Clindagel (clindamycin) not be taken?
|
Do not take Clindagel (clindamycin) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Clindagel (clindamycin) or similar medications you have infections due to causes other than bacteria, such as most upper respiratory tract infections a history of regional enteritis or ulcerative colitis, or a history of antibiotic-associated colitis. |
What precautions should I follow when taking Clindagel (clindamycin) ?

Before using Clindagel (clindamycin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition due to the unpleasant taste of Clindagel (clindamycin) care should be exercised while applying Clindagel (clindamycin) around mouth Clindagel (clindamycin) should be used with caution in atopic individuals |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Clindagel (clindamycin)?

Clindagel (clindamycin) has been associated with severe swelling of the colon and diarrhea, which may result in death. Clindamycin kills susceptible bacteria by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. Topical clindamycin treats acne by killing susceptible bacteria causing acne and reducing the amount of free fatty acids that irritate the surface of the skin. |
What are the side effects of Clindagel (clindamycin)?

Most severe: Severe allergic reaction (itching, redness, swelling, hives, difficulty breathing).
|
|
Most common: Stomach pain; nausea; vomiting; change in taste; diarrhea.
|
|
Other: Dry skin, acne worse, rash/redness, peeling, discoloration, irritation, itching, new acne, sunburn and contact dermatitis.
|
How should I take Clindagel (clindamycin)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Clindagel (clindamycin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Clindagel (clindamycin) should only be given by a health care professional who is experienced in the use of Clindagel (clindamycin). If severe diarrhea, stomach cramps/pain, or bloody stools occur, contact doctor at once. This could be a symptom of a serious side effect. Do not treat diarrhea without talking with your doctor. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Clindagel (clindamycin). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor.

Store Clindagel (clindamycin) at controlled room temperature (68 to 77 degrees F). |
