Before using Colace (docusate sodium), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or rash if you notice a sudden change in bowel habits over a period of 2 weeks if you are taking mineral oil or other laxatives products if you have any other medical condition |

How should I take Colace (docusate sodium)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Colace (docusate sodium) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Shake well before using. Drink plenty of liquids while taking Colace (docusate sodium). Take with a full glass of water or fruit juice. The dose can also be mixed with a half glass of milk or fruit juice, or in an infant formula to hide its bitter taste. A bowel movement usually occurs 1 to 3 days after the first dose. Do not take Colace (docusate sodium) for more than 1 week unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your doctor if rectal bleeding occurs or if you are unable to have a bowel movement after use of Colace (docusate sodium). This could be a sign of a serious condition. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparation or dietary supplements. Do not take more medicine than recommended unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Colace (docusate sodium). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.

Store Colace (docusate sodium) at room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F). Protect from excessive temperatures. Keep in a tight, light-resistant container. |
