What is Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) used for? |
Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) is used for the treatment of intestinal infestations caused by parasites such as Enterobius vermicularis (threadworm, pinworm), Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm), Necator americanus (hookworm), Trichostrongylus colubriformis and T. orientalis.

What precautions should I follow when taking Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) ?

Before using Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have impaired kidney or liver function, if you have heart or lung problem |

What are the side effects of Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate)?
|

Most severe: Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) is well tolerated. The probable effects of overdosage would include autonomic dysfunction, muscle spasm, twitches and weakness, prostration and ultimately asphyxia due to muscular paralysis.

Most common: Vomiting, diarrhea
|
|
Other: (Rarely) Headache, insomnia, irritability, drowsiness, dizziness, anorexia, abdominal cramps, nausea and rash

How should I take Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) can be taken with or without food. Purging is not necessary prior to or during therapy. On rare occasions a second dose has been necessary to eradicate pinworm or roundworm infection. Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) may be taken with milk or fruit juice. The presence of an infection of Enterobius in one patient may indicate unidentified infections in other members of the family. Treatment for all family members is recommended. Rigorous cleaning of living quarters and clothing to destroy helmintic ova and strict attention to personal hygiene will help prevent reinfection. It will not stain the oral mucosa upon ingestion or the clothing by fecal contamination. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Combantrin (pyrantel pamoate) in a dry place below 86 degree F. Do not freeze. Protect from light and moisture. Store the suspension in it's original amber colored bottle. |
