Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9) is used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.

Do not use Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9)

Before using Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions, if you have allergies, irritations, or infections of the genitals, if you have had a recent child birth or abortion, if you have Sores on the genitals (sex organs), if you use vaginal caps or diaphtagm as it increases the risk of developing toxic shock syndrome.

For spermicides to work properly to prevent pregnancy, they must stay in contact with the sperm in the vagina for at least 6 or 8 hours (depending upon which brand of spermicide you use) after sexual intercourse. Vaginal douching is not necessary after use of these medicines . Douching too soon (even with just water) may stop the spermicide from working. Also, washing or rinsing the vaginal or rectal area may also make the spermicide ineffective in helping to prevent sexually transmitted diseases .

Other: Chills; confusion; dizziness; fever; lightheadedness; muscle aches; sunburn-like skin rash that is followed by peeling of the skin; unusual redness of the inside of the nose, mouth, throat, vagina, or insides of the eyelids

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9) if for external use only. Do not stop taking Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
