Before using Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions, if you have allergies, irritations, or infections of the genitals, if you have had a recent child birth or abortion, if you have Sores on the genitals (sex organs), if you use vaginal caps or diaphtagm as it increases the risk of developing toxic shock syndrome. |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9)?

For spermicides to work properly to prevent pregnancy, they must stay in contact with the sperm in the vagina for at least 6 or 8 hours (depending upon which brand of spermicide you use) after sexual intercourse. Vaginal douching is not necessary after use of these medicines . Douching too soon (even with just water) may stop the spermicide from working. Also, washing or rinsing the vaginal or rectal area may also make the spermicide ineffective in helping to prevent sexually transmitted diseases . |

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Delfen Contraceptive Foam w/ Applicator (nonoxynol 9) you are taking, talk with your health care provider.
