Diastat (not available in Canada) is used for the intermittent treatment of severe epileptic seizures

Do not take Diastat (not available in Canada) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Diastat (not available in Canada) or to similar medications.

Before using Diastat (not available in Canada), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions.

Diastat (not available in Canada) causes drowsiness and sedation, do not engage in activities requiring mental alertness such as driving a car or operating machinery until the sedating effects of Diastat (not available in Canada) have worn off. Alcohol can increase the drowsiness effects and should be avoided.

Other: Sore throat, fever, chills, muscle weakness, aggressive or bizarre behaviours, low blood pressure, unusual bleeding or bruising, cough, pale skin, increased salivation, visual changes, urinary incontinence, yellowing of the eyes or skin

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Diastat (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Severe high blood pressure can occur if certain nasal decongestants are taken with Diastat (not available in Canada). Diastat (not available in Canada) may produce dizziness or drowsiness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking Diastat (not available in Canada) without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medication than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Diastat (not available in Canada). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take Diastat (not available in Canada) on an empty stomach, always take it with food or milk and a full glass of water. Do not lie down for about 20 to 30 minutes after taking Diastat (not available in Canada). This helps prevent irritation that could lead to trouble in swallowing. Diastat (not available in Canada) may also cause confusion and, rarely, psychosis, especially in older adults.

Store Diastat (not available in Canada) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.
