How should I take Ecostatin Vaginal (econazole nitrate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Ecostatin Vaginal (econazole nitrate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Intractable candidiasis may be the presenting symptom of unrecognized diabetes. Appropriate urine/blood studies may be indicated in patients not responding to the treatment. During the treatment period, it may be advisable to instruct the patient to abstain from intercourse or, alternatively, to recommend the use of a condom. Since small amounts of Ecostatin Vaginal (econazole nitrate) is absorbed in to the blood stream, do not use Ecostatin Vaginal (econazole nitrate) in the first trimester of pregnancy. Use the vaginal applicator with extreme caution if you are pregnant. Treatment with Ecostatin Vaginal (econazole nitrate) should be continued during menstruation. Continue administration for the complete 3 day period even if the signs and symptoms of the disease disappear. Although a 3 day course of treatment is usually sufficient, occasionally it may be necessary to institute a second course of treatment. Clinical improvement usually occurs promptly; however, complete disappearance of the symptoms of the disease may require prolonged treatment. Candida infections should be treated for at least 2 weeks and dermatophyte infections for 1 month to reduce the risk of recurrence. If no improvement has occurred after 1 month of treatment with topical cream, the diagnosis should be reassessed. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Ecostatin Vaginal (econazole nitrate). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
