Erybid (erythromycin base) is used to treat mild to moderately severe upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and soft tissue infections. It is also used to treat certain sexually transmitted diseases.

Do not take/give Erybid (erythromycin base) if you and/or your child are allergic to any ingredient in Erybid (erythromycin base)

Before using Erybid (erythromycin base), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you and/or your child are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparations, or dietary supplement if you and/or your child have impaired kidney or liver function if you and/or your child have any other medical condition

Erybid (erythromycin base) can cause significant hepatic dysfunction and colitis. If symptoms suggestive of these diseases occur, discontinue treatment with Erybid (erythromycin base) and seek immediate medical attention.

Other:  Second infection; feeling of a whirling motion; dizziness.

How much medicine you take/give and how often you take/give it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Erybid (erythromycin base) you are taking/giving, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Erybid (erythromycin base) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take/give Erybid (erythromycin base) exactly as directed by your health care provider. Erybid (erythromycin base) may be taken with or without food. If nausea or stomach upset occur, take it with food. Contact your health care provider at once if severe rash, itching, or hives develop. If severe diarrhea, stomach cramps/pain, or bloody stools occur, contact your doctor at once. This could be a sign of a serious side effect requiring instant medical attention. Do not treat diarrhea without talking with your health care provider. Long-term or repeated use of Erybid (erythromycin base) may cause a second infection. You may need to stop taking/giving Erybid (erythromycin base) and start another medication to treat the second infection. Contact your doctor if you suspect a second infection. Continue to use until of the prescribed medicine has been taken. Failure to take all of Erybid (erythromycin base) may prevent complete elimination of the bacteria, allowing the infection to return. Erybid (erythromycin base) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other activities requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking/giving Erybid (erythromycin base). Do not stop taking/giving Erybid (erythromycin base) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take/give more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken/given too much of Erybid (erythromycin base). Do not take/give any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take/give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
