What is Exorex (coal tar) used for? |
Exorex (coal tar) is used to relieve itching, scaling, and flaking of the skin caused by psoriasis.

When should Exorex (coal tar) not be taken?
|
Do not take Exorex (coal tar) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Exorex (coal tar) if you have acne or folliculitis, if you are sensitive to sunlight |
What precautions should I follow when taking Exorex (coal tar) ?

Before using Exorex (coal tar), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Exorex (coal tar)?

Exorex (coal tar) should not be applied to the genital or rectal areas. Do not use Exorex (coal tar) if you suffer from folliculitis and acne vulgaris, you are allergic to sunlight, you suffer from a condition called lupus erythematosus, you suffer from infection of the skin or have broken skin. |

Most severe: Severe skin irritation, rash, sensitivity to light

Most common: Irritation; allergic reaction (rash, hives).

How should I take Exorex (coal tar)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Exorex (coal tar) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Exorex (coal tar) is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Contact your health care provider if condition worsens, does not improve, or covers a large area of the body or if irritation or allergic reaction develops. Use caution when exposing skin to sunlight for at least 24 hours after applying Exorex (coal tar). Do not use around the rectum, genitals, or groin area, or with any other medicine used to treat psoriasis unless directed to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Exorex (coal tar). If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as possible. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
