Flagyl (metronidazole) is used to treat vaginal infection caused by certain bacteria.

Do not take Flagyl (metronidazole) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Flagyl (metronidazole) or to similar medications you are in the first 3 months of pregnancy Flagyl (metronidazole) should not be administered to patients with active neurological disorders or a history of blood dyscrasia, hypothyroidism and hypoadrenalism.

Before using Flagyl (metronidazole), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have any other medical condition like kidney disease, liver disease, blood disorders, neurological disorders or pancreatic disease

Flagyl (metronidazole) has been shown to cause cancer in animal studies. Do not use Flagyl (metronidazole) if it is not necessary. Use Flagyl (metronidazole) only for its intended use. How metronidazole kills susceptible bacteria is not fully known. It is thought that it stops the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

Other:  Unusual taste; diarrhea; decreased appetite; gas; thirstiness; dry mouth; dizziness; depression; itching; rash; cramping; tiredness; dark urine.

How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Flagyl (metronidazole) you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Flagyl (metronidazole) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Use Flagyl (metronidazole) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Flagyl (metronidazole) is for intravaginal use only. Do not take orally or use on the skin or eyes. Flagyl (metronidazole) is to be applied in the vagina once or twice a day for 5 days in a row. For once-a-day dosing, it should be used at bedtime. Do not engage in vaginal intercourse while taking Flagyl (metronidazole). Contact your health care provider at once if you experience numbness or tingling of your arms or legs or seizures. Flagyl (metronidazole) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not drink alcohol while taking Flagyl (metronidazole). Do not stop taking Flagyl (metronidazole) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparation or dietary supplement. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Flagyl (metronidazole). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of Flagyl (metronidazole). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Flagyl (metronidazole) between 59 to 86 degrees F. Protect from freezing.
