What is Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) used for? |
Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) is used to treat mixed vaginal infection due to due to Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans (vaginal moniliasis).

Do not take Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) if you have neurological disorders or a history of blood dyscrasia, hypothyroidism or hypoadrenalism |
What precautions should I follow when taking Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) ?

Before using Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have impaired kidney or liver function, if you have heart or lung problem |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin)?

Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) may not be effective in bacterial vaginal infections and should not be prescribed unless there is direct evidence of trichomonal infestation. |
What are the side effects of Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin)?
|
|
Most severe: Allergic reaction (rash, itching, redness, burning)
|
|
Most common: Vaginal burning and granular sensation; bitter taste, nausea and vomiting,
|
|
Other: Spots on the skin around the knees, welts all over the body, aching and swelling of wrists and ankles, pruritus, headache, coated tongue and fatigue.
|
How should I take Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin) or change the dose without checking with your health care provider. This could have serious adverse effects. If after 10 days of treatment a cure has not been achieved a second 10 day course of treatment should be given. If Trichomonas vaginalis has not been completely eliminated, oral metronidazole 250 mg should be administered twice daily for 10 days. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Flagystatin (metronidazole/nystatin). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
