How should I take Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine) is for external use only. Apply once or twice daily to a thickness of about 1/16 inch. Wash hands and wear sterile gloves when applying Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine). Burn areas should be covered with Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine) at all times. Covering the burns with a dressing is optional. Bathe the burned area daily. A whirlpool bath is particularly helpful. Reapply immediately after bathing and to any areas where it has been removed. Continue treatment until healing occurs, until the site is ready for grafting or unless a significant side effect occurs. If burns cover large areas of the body, too much of Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine) may be absorbed, increasing the likelihood of side effects. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Flamazine (silver sulfadiazine). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
