How should I take Flovent (fluticasone)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Flovent (fluticasone) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Read patient package insert carefully. Flovent (fluticasone) is used to prevent asthma attacks. Do not use for a severe asthma attack requiring quick relief. Flovent (fluticasone) is for oral inhalation only. Shake well before using. Use at regularly scheduled intervals as prescribed. Do not exceed recommended dose. Rinse mouth thoroughly and gargle with water after use. Effects are not immediate and require regular use. Benefits usually occur within 1 to 2 weeks. Do not take more than the recommended dose. Avoid exposure to chickenpox and measles. If exposed, contact your Health care provider at once. Supplementary oral steroids may be necessary during periods of high stress (eg, trauma, surgery, infection) or asthma attack. Carry a warning card indicating this potential need. Deaths have occurred after withdrawal from oral corticosteroids and while switching to inhaled corticosteroids. It may take months for adrenal function to return and inhaled corticosteroids do not offer enough protection in times of stress. If symptoms of steroid withdrawal occur when changing from oral to inhalant therapy (eg, joint or muscle pain, lack of energy, breathing problem, dizziness, depression), contact your Health care provider at once. If a bronchodilator (eg, albuterol) is also needed, use it first, then wait several minutes before using Flovent (fluticasone). Lab tests may be required. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Flovent (fluticasone) without checking with your Health care provider. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your Health care provider or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Flovent (fluticasone). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your Health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your Health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your Health care provider or pharmacist.
