Before using Fluanxol (flupenthixol), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have impaired kidney or liver function, if you have heart or lung problem |

What are the side effects of Fluanxol (flupenthixol)?

Most severe: Difficulty in talking or swallowing, inability to move eyes, lip smacking or puckering, loss of balance control, mask-like face, muscle spasm, puffing of cheeks, rapid movements of tongue, severe restlessness or need to keep moving, shuffling
|
|
Most common: Constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, decreased sweating, dryness of mouth, constipation, increased appetite, weight gain
|
|
Other: Changes in menstrual period, decreased libido, impotence, swelling of breasts (in males and females)
|
How should I take Fluanxol (flupenthixol)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Fluanxol (flupenthixol) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Fluanxol (flupenthixol) can be taken with or without food. Do not stop taking Fluanxol (flupenthixol) or change the dose without checking with your health care provider. This could have serious adverse effects. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination or physical dexterity. Avoid alcohol and other medicines that may cause drowsiness (such as benzodiazepines, baclofen) while you are taking Fluanxol (flupenthixol). Inform your health care provider if you are taking an oral contraceptive. Your health care provider may have to adjust the dose of Fluanxol (flupenthixol). Lab tests or exams may be required to monitor treatment. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Fluanxol (flupenthixol). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
