What is Garamycin (gentamicin) used for? |
Garamycin (gentamicin) is applied topically to treat skin infections. It may also be used in the treatment of infected skin cysts and skin abscesses (boils).

How should I take Garamycin (gentamicin)?
|
How much medicine you apply and how often you apply it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount andperor frequency of Garamycin (gentamicin) you are applying, talk with your health care provider. Discontinue use and contact your doctor if irritation or sensitization occurs. Apply a small amount to the affected area 3 or 4 times a day. If desired, the area can be covered with gauze. Garamycin (gentamicin) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Do not stop taking Garamycin (gentamicin) or change the dose unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your doctor if the condition being treated does not improve or seems to return even with continued treatment. Wash hands before and after applying medication. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Garamycin (gentamicin). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Garamycin (gentamicin) at room temperature (between 36 and 86 degrees F). Keep tube tightly capped. |
