Isotamine (Isoniazid) is used to prevent and treat tuberculosis.

Do not take Isotamine (Isoniazid) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Isotamine (Isoniazid) you develop severe allergic reactions (including drug-induced hepatitis) if you have experienced previous liver damage from Isotamine (Isoniazid) if you have impaired kidney or liver

Before using Isotamine (Isoniazid), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine If you consume alcohol daily if you have any other medical condition (eg, liver or kidney disease)

Severe and sometimes fatal hepatitis (liver inflammation) has been reported and may develop even after many months of treatment. The risk of developing hepatitis is age related and is increased with daily consumption of alcohol. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointment. Contact your doctor at once if any of the following signs of liver inflammation occur: Unexplained loss of appetite; nausea; vomiting; dark urine; yellowing of the skin or eyes; rash; persistent abnormal skin sensations; persistent fatigue; weakness; fever that last for more than 3 days; tenderness of the abdomen, especially the upper right quadrant.

Other:  Diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; confusion; itching; hives; muscle pain; headache; vision problems; general body discomfort; breast enlargement; eye problems; skin ulcers.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Isotamine (Isoniazid) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If necessary, Isotamine (Isoniazid) may been taken with food to decrease stomach upset. Eye exams should be done before treatment and periodically throughout treatment. Avoid missing doses. Do not stop taking Isotamine (Isoniazid) before talking with your doctor. Failure to adhere to the drug regimen for the full duration of treatment can result in treatment failure and lead to other serious health risks. Minimize alcohol use. Alcohol may increase the risk of hepatitis. Notify your doctor if weakness, persistent tiredness or fever longer than 3 days, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, rash, stomach tenderness, or numbness or tingling in hands or feet occurs. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Isotamine (Isoniazid). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Isotamine (Isoniazid) at controlled room temperature (59 to 86 degrees F). Protect from light.
