How should I take Keflex (cephalexin)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Keflex (cephalexin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. If severe diarrhea, stomach pain/cramps, or bloody stools occur, contact your doctor at once. This could be a symptom of a serious side effect requiring immediate medical attention. Do not treat diarrhea without consulting your doctor. Diabetic patients - Keflex (cephalexin) can interfere with test for sugar in the urine and give false test results. Keflex (cephalexin) may cause allergic reactions. These may range from milt itching and rash to a life-threatening reaction. Report prior allergic reactions to cephalosporins, penicillins, and other drugs to your doctor. If you experience rash, hives, nausea, severe diarrhea, itching, fever joint and muscle pain, chest tightness, fluid retention, urination problems, chills, unusual bleeding or bruising, or difficulty breathing, contact your doctor at once. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Continue use until all of the prescribed medicine has been taken. Failure to take all of Keflex (cephalexin) may prevent complete elimination of the bacteria, allowing the infection to return. Do not stop taking Keflex (cephalexin) without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Keflex (cephalexin). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
