What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Lectopam (bromazepam)?

The length of treatment with Lectopam (bromazepam) should not exceed one week unless, it is recommended otherwise by your doctor. Lectopam (bromazepam) may be habbit forming when taken for long periods of time. If you have been taking Lectopam (bromazepam) regularly for a long period of time (i.e., longer than a month), do not stop taking Lectopam (bromazepam) without first speaking to your doctor. When stopping Lectopam (bromazepam), a gradual reduction in dose is recommended to avoid withdrawal effects. How should I take Lectopam (bromazepam)?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Lectopam (bromazepam) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Lectopam (bromazepam) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Lectopam (bromazepam). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. Physical dependence (a need to take regular doses to prevent physical symptoms) has been associated with benzodiazepines such as bromazepam. Severe withdrawal symptoms may be experienced (e.g., seizures) if the dose is significantly reduced or if Lectopam (bromazepam) is suddenly discontinued. Withdrawal symptoms include irritability, nervousness, sleep problems, agitation, tremors, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, memory impairment, headache, muscle pain, extreme anxiety, tension, restlessness, and confusion. Reducing the dose gradually under medical supervision can help prevent or decrease these withdrawal symptoms. Lectopam (bromazepam) is not recommended for use by people with depression or psychosis. People who have an addiction to alcohol or other drugs should not take Lectopam (bromazepam), except in rare situations under medical supervision. Because Lectopam (bromazepam) causes drowsiness and sedation, do not engage in activities requiring mental alertness, judgment, and physical coordination, such as driving or operating machinery, while taking it. This is particularly true when first taking the medication and until you have established that Lectopam (bromazepam) does not affect you this way. Alcohol ingestion can increase the drowsiness effects and should be avoided. Seniors may be at increased risk of the sedative and impaired coordination effects of Lectopam (bromazepam). They need to exercise extra caution, for example, to avoid falling when getting up during the night.

How should Lectopam (bromazepam) be stored?

Store Lectopam (bromazepam) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.
