Most severe: Yellowing of the skin or eyes; pounding in the chest; breathing difficulties.
|

Most common: Vomiting; diarrhea; nausea; cramps; loss of appetite; constipation; stomach irritation; hives; rash; sensitivity to sunlight; weakness; tiredness; muscle spasms; dry mouth; restlessness.

Other: Gout attack (joint pain and swelling).

How should I take Metahydrin (not available in Canada)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often it is taken depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Metahydrin (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Metahydrin (not available in Canada) regularly as directed by your health care provider. Follow the dietary guidelines given to you by your health care provider. Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur if you stand up too fast from lying or sitting. Get up slowly, and notify your doctor. Metahydrin (not available in Canada) may cause loss of potassium. If signs of potassium loss occur (weakness, cramps, nausea, dizziness, etc.) contact your doctor. Ask about foods high in potassium. Good sources of potassium include bananas, fruit juice, and broccoli. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Metahydrin (not available in Canada) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and other ultraviolet light. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Diabetic patients - Metahydrin (not available in Canada) may increase your blood sugar levels. This product contains the dye tartrazine (FD&C Yellow No. 5), which may cause allergic reactions in some individuals, particularly asthma patients. Do not take any over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Metahydrin (not available in Canada). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
