Miltown (not available in Canada) is used to provide short-term (less than 4 months) relief of symptoms of anxiety and tension in patients older than 6 years of age. Do not use for anxiety or tension associated with normal stress of everyday life.

Most severe: Severe uncontrollable fever; chills; facial swelling; breathing problems; infrequent urination; inability to urinate; severe allergic reaction (itching, redness, swelling, hives, difficulty breathing); skin inflammation; inflammation of the mouth and rectum.

Most common: Drowsiness; clumsiness; dizziness; slurred speech; headache; feeling of whirling motion; weakness; abnormal skin sensations; vision problems; exaggerated sense of well-being; overstimulation; excitement; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; pounding in the chest; fast heartbeat; irregular heartbeat; fainting; rash. Drug dependence and abuse can occur with Miltown (not available in Canada). Do not stop using Miltown (not available in Canada) quickly. Miltown (not available in Canada) should be gradually reduced over a period of 1 to 2 weeks. Withdrawal symptoms usually start within 12 to 48 hours of stopping Miltown (not available in Canada), and stop within the next 12 to 48 hours.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Miltown (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not crush or chew tablets due to their bitter taste. Miltown (not available in Canada) may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring mental alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Stop taking Miltown (not available in Canada) and notify your doctor at once at the first sign of fever, sore throat, rash, or other sign of allergy. Do not use alcohol or other mental depressants (such as sedatives or tranquilizers) while taking Miltown (not available in Canada). Miltown (not available in Canada) should be given with caution to patients with suicidal tendencies, or a history of alcohol or drug abuse. Do not take Miltown (not available in Canada) longer than prescribed by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Miltown (not available in Canada). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
