This combination medicine is used to treat adult patients with high blood pressure or with congestive heart failure when normal blood potassium levels need to be maintained, and to prevent potassium loss. It may also be used with other medications.

Do not take Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) or to similar medicines (eg, sulfonamides) you have high serum potassium levels you are taking other medicines to treat potassium loss you are taking salt substitutes that contain potassium you are unable to urinate or have kidney disease

Before using Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements if you are diabetic or have heart disease if you have any other medical condition

Use Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) with caution if you have kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, gout, or collagen vascular disease (lupus erythematosus). Continous monitoring of your kidney functions is necessary while using Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ).

Other:  Gout (joint pain and inflammation).

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) with food. Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) increases urination. Take it early in the day. Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) may cause gout attacks. Contact your health care provider if sudden joint pain occurs. Contact your health care provider if any of the following occur: Restlessness; fast heartbeat; changes in heart rhythms; dry mouth; thirst; lack of energy; drowsiness; confusion; seizures; muscle pain or cramps; infrequent urination; nausea; vomiting. Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Diabetic patients - Your health care provider may need to adjust your dose of insulin while you are taking Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Do not change the dose or stop taking Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If several doses are missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Moduretic (amiloride/HCTZ) between 59 and 86 degrees F in a tightly closed container. Protect from light, moisture, and freezing.
