What is Mysoline (primidone) used for? |
Mysoline (primidone) is for the treatment of certain types of seizures in adults and children. It may be used alone or with other anticonvulsants.

When should Mysoline (primidone) not be taken?
|
Do not take Mysoline (primidone) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Mysoline (primidone), phenobarbital, or similar medications you have the blood disorder porphyria |
What precautions should I follow when taking Mysoline (primidone) ?

Before using Mysoline (primidone), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition |

Do not stop Mysoline (primidone) suddenly. It may take several weeks for Mysoline (primidone) to have it's full effect. |
What are the side effects of Mysoline (primidone)?

Most severe: Lack of muscle coordination, vertigo or severe dizziness
|
|
Most common: Incoordination; feeling of a whirling motion.
|
|
Other: Double vision, drowsiness, emotional disturbances, excessive irritability, fatigue, impotence, loss of appetite, nausea, skin eruptions that resemble measles, uncontrolled movement of the eyeballs, vomiting
|
How should I take Mysoline (primidone)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Mysoline (primidone) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Follow the patient instructions provided with Mysoline (primidone) exactly. Seizures can occur if you stop taking Mysoline (primidone) suddenly. Mysoline (primidone) may take several weeks to become effective. Lab tests will be required to monitor treatment. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Mysoline (primidone) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Mysoline (primidone). Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
