What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin)?

Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) may cause headaches or symptoms of hypotension, such as weakness or dizziness, particularly when arising suddenly from a recumbent position, may occur. A reduction in dose or discontinuation of treatment may be necessary. |
What are the side effects of Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin)?

Most severe: Fainting; increased chest pain; severe allergic reaction (nausea, vomiting, weakness, restlessness, pale skin, sweating, collapse).
|
|
Most common: Headache; lightheadedness; abnormal skin sensations.
|
|
Other: Flushing; rash; sore throat; runny nose; swelling of the hands and feet; stomach pain. The effectiveness of nitrate therapy may decrease over time as tolerance develops. If this occurs, tell your doctor.

How should I take Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Avoid inhaling Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) or spraying into your eyes. Take Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) at the first sign of chest pain, onto or under the tongue. No more than 3 sprays should be given within a 15-minute period. Sit quietly after you use Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) until it takes effect. Do not spit Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) out or rinse your mouth for 5 to 10 minutes after use. If chest pain continues, seek medical attention at once. Use Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) 5 to 10 minutes before engaging in physical activity that may cause chest pain. If you do not use Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) for more than 6 weeks, you will need to reprime the pump before you use it again. Do not stop taking Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Nitro Spray (nitroglycerin) between 59 and 86 degrees F. Do not spray towards fire or flame. |
