What is Parlodel (bromocriptine) used for? |
Parlodel (bromocriptine) is used is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including: Infertility in some women, menstrual problems such as the abnormal stoppage or absence of flow, with or without excessive production of milk, growth hormone overproduction leading to acromegaly, a condition characterized by an abnormally large skull, jaw, hands, and feet, Parkinson's disease and Pituitary gland tumors

When should Parlodel (bromocriptine) not be taken?

Do not take Parlodel (bromocriptine) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Parlodel (bromocriptine) or to similar medications. |
What precautions should I follow when taking Parlodel (bromocriptine) ?
|

Before using Parlodel (bromocriptine), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking or planning to take any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition if you have high blood pressure if you have a history of heart attack, heart or vessel disease, high or low blood pressure, irregular heart rate, liver disease, mental disorders, retroperitoneal fibrosis, seizures (convulsions), ulcers or history of ulcers, an unusual or allergic reaction to bromocriptine, ergot alkaloids, sulfites, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Parlodel (bromocriptine)?

Use extreme caution if you have impaired kidney or liver function or if you have a nasal discharge. |
What are the side effects of Parlodel (bromocriptine)?
|
|
Most severe: Confusion, constipation, delusions, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling unwell, hallucinations, lethargy, nausea, pallor, severely low blood pressure, sweating, vomiting, yawning repeatedly
|
|
Most common: Abdominal cramps or discomfort, confusion, constipation, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, drop in blood pressure, drowsiness, dry mouth, fainting, fatigue, hallucinations (particularly in Parkinson's patients), headache, inability to sleep, indigestion, light-headedness, loss of appetite, loss of coordination, nasal congestion, nausea, shortness of breath, uncontrolled body movement, vertigo, visual disturbance, vomiting, weakness, abdominal bleeding, anxiety, difficulty swallowing, frequent urination, heart attack, inability to hold urine, inability to urinate, nightmares, nervousness, rash, seizures, splotchy skin, stroke, swelling in feet and ankles, twitching of eyelids

Other: Abnormal heart rhythm, blurred vision or temporary blindness, cold feet, fast or slow heartbeat, hair loss, heavy-headedness, increase in blood pressure, lower back pain, muscle cramps, muscle cramps in feet and legs, numbness, pale face, paranoia, prickling or tingling, reduced tolerance to cold, severe or continuous headache, shortness of breath, sluggishness, tingling of ears or fingers

How should I take Parlodel (bromocriptine)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Parlodel (bromocriptine) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Parlodel (bromocriptine) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Parlodel (bromocriptine). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Parlodel (bromocriptine) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets. |
