How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Perphenazine/Amitriptyline (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a potentially deadly syndrome associated with Perphenazine/Amitriptyline (not available in Canada). Talk with your doctor if the following symptoms develop: Increased body heat; muscle rigidity; altered mental state (eg, confusion, withdrawal, unresponsiveness); irregular pulse and blood pressure; increased heart rate; sweating. Involuntary and uncontrollable movements may develop in patients treated with Perphenazine/Amitriptyline (not available in Canada). It occurs most often in the elderly; the risk of the symptoms becoming permanent increases with long-term use and with high doses. However, it is possible to develop these symptoms after short-term treatment at low doses. This syndrome is normally identified by rhythmical, involuntary movements of the tongue, face, mouth,, or jaw (eg, tongue sticking out, puffing of cheeks, puckering of mouth, chewing movements), sometimes with involuntary movements of the arms or legs. Small worm-like movements of the tongue may be an early sign of the syndrome. If Perphenazine/Amitriptyline (not available in Canada) is stopped at this time, the syndrome may not develop. There is no known treatment of this syndrome, although it may stop, either partially or completely, if Perphenazine/Amitriptyline (not available in Canada) is withdrawn.
