What is Phisohex (hexachlorophene) used for? |
This antibacterial soap is used as a skin cleanser before surgery by medical personnel and as an antibacterial skin cleanser. It may also be used to help prevent infections from spreading during an outbreak.

When should Phisohex (hexachlorophene) not be taken?
|
Do not use this product: if you are allergic to any ingredient in Phisohex (hexachlorophene) or to similar medications on burned or denuded skin as a bandage, wet pack, or lotion for bathing the whole body to prevent infection as a vaginal pack or tampon or on any mucous membranes (eg, lining of the mouth) |

Before using Phisohex (hexachlorophene), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine or dietary supplement if you have any other medical condition |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Phisohex (hexachlorophene)?

Phisohex (hexachlorophene) is intended for external use only. If swallowed accidently, Phisohex (hexachlorophene) is extremely harmful. Do not pour Phisohex (hexachlorophene) into measuring cups, medicine bottles, or similar containers since it may be mistaken for baby formula or other medication. Suds that get into the eyes accidentally during washing should be rinsed out promptly and thoroughly with water. |

Most severe: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)

Most common: Swelling of the skin; skin sensitivity to light; skin redness; mild scaling; dryness.

How should I take Phisohex (hexachlorophene)?
|
Phisohex (hexachlorophene) is for topical use only. Wet affected area with water and apply this cleanser. Rinse thoroughly after each use. Do not apply Phisohex (hexachlorophene) to skin that is burned, broken, or has any kind of rash or noninfected sores. Do not use this product on an infant. Rinse this product thoroughly from sensitive areas such as the genital areas, after use of Phisohex (hexachlorophene). This product should be stopped at once at the first sign of skin sores, swelling of the skin, or brain irritability (eg, excitement, irritability). Do not allow this product to come into contact with the eyes. If this occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not put this product into containers other than the one that this product came in. Phisohex (hexachlorophene) may cause sensitivity to sunlight or other forms of UV light (such as tanning beds). Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and wear sunscreen and protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Do not stop using this product without checking with your health care provider. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before using this product. Do not use more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your health care provider.

Store Phisohex (hexachlorophene) at room temperature (77 degrees F). Do not store in metal containers. |
