What are the side effects of Pilopine HS Gel (pilocarpine)?

Most severe: Poor vision at night; detachment of the retina.
|
|
Most common: Tearing; burning; discomfort; headache at the temples or around the eyes; spasm of muscles under the eyelashes; minor inflammation of the cornea; nearsightedness; redness or swelling of the eye.

Other: Urgent need to pass urine, weakness, tiredness, runny nose, breathing difficulty.
|
How should I take Pilopine HS Gel (pilocarpine)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Pilopine HS Gel (pilocarpine) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Apply a one-half inch ribbon in the lower lid of the affected eye(s) once a day at bedtime. Do not let the tip of the container touch any surface, since this could contaminate the gel. Use caution while driving at night or performing tasks in poor lighting as vision may be reduced. Report any changes in vision to your doctor at once. Do not stop taking Pilopine HS Gel (pilocarpine) without checking with your doctor. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Pilopine HS Gel (pilocarpine). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
