Do not touch the tube opening of Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate) to any surface, including the eyes or hands. The tube opening is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye. |

How should I take Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not allow the tip of the eye applicator to come into contact with the eye, eyelids, fingers, or any other surface to prevent contamination of Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate). Serious damage to the eye and loss of vision may result from using contaminated products. If the conditions continue or get worse, or if a rash or allergic reaction occurs (itching, reddening, swelling of eyelid), stop using Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate) and talk with your doctor. If discharge or inflammation occur, or if pain increases, stop using Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate) and talk with your doctor. Do not take over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Polysporin Opthalmic Ointment (bacitracin zinc/polymyxin B sulfate). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
