What are the side effects of Polytrim (polymixin/trimethoprim)?

Most severe: Eyelid swelling; tearing; rash around the eye.
|
|
Most common: Increased redness, burning, stinging, and itching of the eye.
|
|
Other: Watery eyes; itchy eyes; dryness around the eye; puffy eyes; eye irritation; stye.

How should I take Polytrim (polymixin/trimethoprim)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Polytrim (polymixin/trimethoprim) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not allow the tip of the eye applicator to come into contact with the eye, fingertips, or any other source. To apply Polytrim (polymixin/trimethoprim), gently pull lower eyelid out and drop solution into the formed pocket. Close eye and allow solution to move around. If eye redness, irritation, swelling, or pain continues or increases, stop using Polytrim (polymixin/trimethoprim) at once and talk with your doctor. Do not wear contact lenses if you have any sign or symptom of an eye infection. Do not take over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Polytrim (polymixin/trimethoprim). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
