Ponstel (not available in Canada) is used to relieve mild to moderate pain in patients 14 years of age and older for up to 7 days. It is also used to treat painful menstruation.

Do not take Ponstel (not available in Canada) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Ponstel (not available in Canada) you have experienced asthma, rash, hives, or other allergic type reactions after taking aspirin or other similar medications (eg, ibuprofen) you have active ulcers or chronic inflammation of either the upper or lower intestines you have kidney disease you are in your last trimester of pregnancy |

Most severe: Ulcers; bleeding; stomach perforation; severe allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); yellowing of the skin or eyes; congestive heart failure; fainting; tremors; asthma; difficulty breathing; lightheadedness; heart attack; pounding in the chest; inflammation of the pancreas (stomach tenderness; nausea; vomiting; fever; increased pulse rate); seizures; hallucinations; meningitis; interrupted breathing; dark, bloody stools; rectal bleeding.

Most common: Stomach pain; constipation; diarrhea; indigestion; gas; heartburn; nausea; headache; itching; rash; ringing in the ears; vomiting; dizziness.

Other: Fever; infection; changes in weight; anxiety; weakness; confusion; depression; abnormal dreams; drowsiness; sleeplessness; general body discomfort; feeling of a whirling motion; hair loss; sensitivity to sunlight; sweating; blurred vision; changes in appetite; excessive hunger, thirst, or urination; inflammation of the eye; hearing problems; bruising; chills; dry mouth; itching; nervousness; abnormal skin sensations; mouth sores.

How should I take Ponstel (not available in Canada)?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Ponstel (not available in Canada) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Ponstel (not available in Canada) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Ponstel (not available in Canada) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Take Ponstel (not available in Canada) with food. Contact your health care provider if signs or symptoms of stomach bleeding occur or if rash, weight gain or swelling occur. Contact your health care provider if any of the following occurs: Nausea; fatigue; lethargy; itching; yellowing of the skin or eyes; upper right side of the body tenderness; flu-like symptoms (headache; tiredness; muscle aches; fever). Contact your health care provider at once if a severe allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue) occurs while taking Ponstel (not available in Canada). Women who are pregnant should not take Ponstel (not available in Canada) during the last trimester of pregnancy, as it may harm the developing fetus. Ponstel (not available in Canada) may cause drowsiness or changes in vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, and physical dexterity. Ponstel (not available in Canada) may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and other ultraviolet (UV) light (eg, tanning beds). Use sunscreens and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Ponstel (not available in Canada). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of Ponstel (not available in Canada). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
