How should I take Precose (acarbose)?
Use exactly as prescribed. How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Precose (acarbose) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take Precose (acarbose) 3 times daily at the start (with the first bite) of each meal. If a dose is missed at the beginning (first bite) of a meal, take during the meal. Do not take it after the meal has been fully eaten. Do not take a dose if you are going to skip a meal. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Be sure to follow the diet, exercise and testing of urine or blood glucose programs prescribed by your doctor. Diabetic patients - Precose (acarbose), used with other diabetes medicines, may cause a loss of blood sugar control. Your health care provider may need to adjust the amount of medicine that you are taking. Because Precose (acarbose) prevents the breakdown of table (cane) sugar, be sure to use glucose (dextrose), not sugar or fruits, to treat symptoms of low blood sugar (fatigue, excessive hunger, profuse sweating, numbness in arms or legs). Contact your health care provider if these symptoms occur. Do not change the amount of medicine that you are taking without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medication than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Lab tests and exams are required to monitor treatment. Keep appointments. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Precose (acarbose). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor.
How should Precose (acarbose) be stored?
