What is Prempro (medroxyprog./CES) used for? |
Prempro (medroxyprog./CES) is used reduce moderate to severe symptoms of menopause, including feelings of warmth in the face, neck, and chest, and the sudden intense episodes of heat and sweating known as "hot flashes."

What precautions should I follow when taking Prempro (medroxyprog./CES) ?

Before using Prempro (medroxyprog./CES), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition like heart disease, lung disease, impairment of kidney or liver functions. |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Prempro (medroxyprog./CES)?

Because estrogens have been linked with an increased risk of uterine and endometrial cancer (cancer in the lining of the uterus), it is essential to have regular checkups and to report any unusual vaginal bleeding to your doctor immediately. Prempro (medroxyprog./CES) should not be used to prevent heart disease. Recent studies have confirmed an increased rate of heart attack, stroke, and dangerous blood clots among women taking estrogen or estrogen combinations for 5 years. Blood clots can lead to phlebitis, stroke, heart attack, a loss of blood supply to the lungs, a blockage in the blood vessels serving the eye, and other serious disorders. |
What are the side effects of Prempro (medroxyprog./CES)?

Most severe: Abdominal cramps, abnormal vaginal bleeding, allergic reactions, bloating, blood clots, blood pressure increase, breast cancer or cysts, breast pain or discharge, breast swelling and tenderness, decreased calcium in the blood, depression, dizziness, endometrial cancer, endometrial cell changes, enlargement of benign tumors in the liver or uterus, fluid retention, gallbladder disease, hair loss from the scalp, hives, increased body hair, increased triglycerides, inflammation of the pancreas, intolerance to contact lenses, irritability, itchy spots, joint pain, leg cramps, migraine headache, nausea, mood disturbances, nervousness, ovarian cancer, painful menstruation, sex-drive changes, skin darkening (especially on the face), skin rash or redness, swelling of wrists and ankles, vaginal yeast infection, vomiting, weight gain or loss, worsening of asthma or epilepsy, yellow eyes and skin

How should I take Prempro (medroxyprog./CES)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Prempro (medroxyprog./CES) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking Prempro (medroxyprog./CES) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Prempro (medroxyprog./CES). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. Women taking estrogen alone or in combination with progesterone have been reported to have an increased risk of conditions associated with blood clotting. Although the risk is small, it's important to be aware of this possibility during estrogen replacement therapy and to report any unusual symptoms to your doctor. Women with severe varicose veins or severe obesity, and those needing to stay in bed for three weeks or more, are generally considered to be at increased. There is a need for caution for women who have a strong family history of breast cancer, for those who develop breast nodules or fibrocystic disease of the breast, or for those who have abnormal mammograms. Other known risk factors in the development of breast cancer such as not having children, obesity, early onset of menstruation, late age at first full-term pregnancy, and late age at menopause should also be evaluated. Women taking estrogens should have regular breast examinations and should learn how to do breast self-examination.
